A collection of extraordinary Indian treasures

Jewellery in the Mughal tradition was an integral aspect of articulating authority, with eyewitness accounts from the height of the Mughal Empire revealing the extent to which rulers valued gems for their rarity, physical properties and provenance.

In anticipation of Christie’s Maharajas & Mughal Magnificence sale which takes place on 19 June in New York, this week’s Private Screening sees Christie’s International Head of Jewellery, Rahul Kadakia, introduce some of the fascinating pieces from an incredible collection of royal jewels and jewelled objects that are set to make auction history.
