To the delight of Cape Town foodies, Harbour House Constantia Nek has given this much-loved destination a new lease of gourmet life – expect a sophisticated, light space with seating for 80-100 people. The commanding views of the rolling Constantiaberg mountain range from the wall-to-ceiling windows are impressive, with doors opening onto the fragrant herb garden which supplies the bustling kitchen.
The décor is simple and understated – keeping the original form and structure of this Heritage building was a key consideration for the design team. White interiors with rustic stone walls, floors and herringbone brick work simply to amplify the original space.
As a sister restaurant to the original Harbour House in Kalk Bay and V&A Waterfront, the restaurant sticks to its winning formula of fresh seafood served with a gourmet spin. Share a sushi, shellfish or seafood platter with calamari, mussels, prawns, crayfish and line fish, or opt for the ever-popular Mozambican-style peri-peri tiger prawns.
Constantia is the oldest wine producing region in Africa and houses many award-winning wine farms – many of which feature on the curated Harbour House wine list. Plans for wine tastings and relaxed weekend bubbly brunches are also underway.
With most Capetonians associating Constantia Nek with happy memories of 21st birthdays, weddings and parties spanning decades, it was important that the spaces remain open for those wishing to celebrate important milestones or dine with extended groups of friends and family. As a result, the new site is perfect for small weddings, corporate functions or international tour groups looking for casual fine dining.
La Parada at Constantia Nek
The original La Parada Tapas Bar is located on Bree Street – Cape Town’s hottest food strip – and was created in tribute to the Spanish bars that bewitched Hemmingway. La Parada now offers the most authentic tapas in town, with a menu that has been updated and perfected for both Bree Street and Constantia Nek by talented new chef Martin Senekel.
The La Parada Constantia Nek interior is impressive, boasting ornate pressed ceilings, an eclectic mix of chairs and lampshades and a golden bull’s head for good measure.
The restaurant specialises in authentic tapas, a favourite amongst Capetonian foodies, incorporating natural Spanish flair. With many patrons popping in for afternoon drinks and a light bite, rather than a sit down dinner – which is after all the origin of tapas – the drinks list encourages as much experimentation as the menu.
The gypsy-chic décor and vibrant atmosphere make this a fine spot for a quick lunch, after work relaxing, casual get together with friends, late-night carousing or a work get-together. And Constantia Nek, with the views and ambience, is the ideal meeting place for Sunday breakfasts and long lunches.
