5 October, 2018 | This week in luxury, a De Beers gem is set to make diamond history, Gucci makes a biblical statement and Alfa Romeo explores a dark tint.
A historical pink jewel
Christie’s in Geneva is putting up a 18.96-carat Fancy Vivid Pink diamond in the Magnificent Jewels auction on 13 November 2018. The gem traces back to the Oppenheimer diamond dynasty and could potentially fetch over $50 million.
‘To find a diamond of this size with this colour is pretty much unreal,’ says Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewellery at Christie’s. ‘You may see this colour in a pink diamond of less than one carat. But this is almost 19 carats and it’s as pink as can be. It’s unbelievable.’.
Noah’s Ark-inspired collection
Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, references a biblical tale for the Italian brand’s Gucci Gothic 2019 campaign. The series, shot and directed by British photographer, Glen Luchford, showcases a community -dressed in head-to-toe high-fashion garments – living on a rural landscape alongside wild animals in surreal harmony. In true Gucci style, it’s pretty out there. The Gucci Cruise 2019 collection forms part of Michele’s three-part homage to France.
Explore the dark side
Earlier this week Alfa Romeo added high-tech features and dark glossy details to the Giulia, Stelvio and Giulietta models by introducing the Nero Edizione ‘Black Edition’ trim across the range. Packed with innovative features for added comfort, safety and connectivity the collection enhances Alfa Romeo’s sporty looks and driving pleasure.
An iconic collaboration
Vacheron Constantin, in partnership with European watch retailer, Bucherer, have launched three limited edition Patrimony Traditionnelle models. The Blue Edition is stamped with the Poinçon de Genève and presents the Traditionnelle model range as an elegant and artistic reminder of the sky, the sea, and noblesse.
A bit of whisky fun
Johnnie Walker is set to release a Game of Thrones inspired whisky this month. White Walker is a unique creation by whisky specialist George Harper, alongside expert blenders at Johnnie Walker. According to Harper White Walker was inspired by the hit TV series, as well as whiskies from Clynelish which have endured long, Scottish winters. This limited-edition icy blend is best served directly from the freezer.
