“We are paying tribute to a long tradition, at the same time, we are transferring extraordinary technology, aesthetics and extreme luxury to a new age,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

The one-of-a-kind Bugatti La Voiture Noire is a tribute to the marque’s Type 57SC Atlantic that vanished in 1938. Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean Bugatti, designed the original model in the 1930s, and named the vehicle La Voiture Noire, which literally translates to “the black car”, and sometime before the Second World War, the racer disappeared without a trace.

According to Car and Driver, the car was moved to a safer part of France when the Germans invaded Alsace. If Jean’s Atlantic still exists and has been hidden away in a French barn for the past 80 years, it would be worth more than $113 million if found today.
