We were fond of khaki back then. And sporty textile straps. Of course, we also had a thing for rectangular, luminous hands, and a quarter-seconds scale. All elements making their way into the rerelease of this iconic timepiece. Additionally, the dial variant of this Pilot’s Watch is also based on the retro design, but IWC have not forgone function for the sake of form.
Proving this, like every item in the Pilot’s Watch series, IWC have ensured protection against magnetic fields through a soft iron cage, and glass ‘secured against displacement caused by sudden drops in air pressure in the cockpit’. This is, after all, a watch for pilots.
This nineties throwback has a robust 79320 calibre that allows for stopwatch use, and has its minutes and hours displayed by two subdails at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. Currently the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is only available through ecommerce until October this year. If you’re the brick-and-mortar type, you’ll have to wait until after this date to get it locked around your wrist.
