Albida – Victoria Falls: A different way to experience Victoria Falls 1

Victoria Falls tends to inspire a certain kind of itinerary. There is the Falls themselves, of course, followed by game drives, sunset cruises and time on the Zambezi. But where you stay can change the rhythm of the experience considerably.

At Albida – Victoria Falls, that rhythm is deliberately unhurried. The intimate lodge sits within a quiet corner of the private Victoria Falls Safari Collection estate, around four kilometres from the Falls and just 20 minutes from Victoria Falls International Airport. With just 13 villas spread through established woodland, it is a setting where the landscape does much of the talking.

Life beneath the canopy

The lodge takes its name from the Albida tree, whose canopy enriches the soil beneath it, an idea that carries through into the property’s sense of place.

The villas are positioned among mature woodland around a central lodge, deck and waterhole. From here, the experience is as much about what happens between excursions as the excursions themselves: birds moving through the trees, wildlife passing by and the changing light over the Zambezi.

There are 10 Deluxe Villas and three Family Villas. The former accommodate up to two guests, while the latter have two separate bedrooms and can sleep up to four. All have private terraces and plunge pools, spacious living areas and en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers.

It gives the property a distinctly private feel, without removing guests from the surrounding wilderness.

The Falls are only the beginning

Being four kilometres from Victoria Falls means it is easy to make the landmark the centrepiece of a day, but Albida’s included experiences encourage a broader look at the region.

Two experiences are included for each night of a stay, with the selection ranging from wildlife and river activities to wellness and cultural experiences.

For the most dramatic introduction, there is the Flight of Angels, a 12–13-minute helicopter flight that puts the Falls, the Zambezi River and the surrounding national park into perspective from above. On the ground, guided drives through Zambezi National Park offer the chance to see elephant, buffalo, giraffe, antelope and birdlife, while private game reserve safaris extend the wildlife experience into one of Zimbabwe’s premier private reserves.

Then there is Chobe. A full-day excursion crosses into Botswana, combining a game-viewing cruise on the Chobe River with lunch overlooking the water and an afternoon game drive through Chobe National Park.

When the pace slows

Some of the experiences are less about ticking off another attraction and more about seeing the landscape differently.

A guided walking safari swaps the vehicle for the bush itself, with a professional guide drawing attention to animal tracks, birdlife, flora and the wider ecosystem. At the Siduli Hide, guests can watch wildlife gathering around a waterhole from a termite-mound-inspired structure.

On the Zambezi, sunset and dinner cruises offer another perspective. The sunset cruise travels along the upper river, while the dinner cruise combines an evening on the water with dinner and wine as the light fades.

And for a change of pace entirely, a one-hour treatment at Victoria Falls Safari Spa is included among the signature experiences, alongside a guided visit to a local village offering an insight into rural Zimbabwean life and traditions.

A stay built around less doing

There is a practical simplicity to the way Albida works, too. Accommodation, meals and beverages, private airport transfers, laundry and the selected experiences are included, while butler service takes care of the logistics of each day.

That leaves plenty of room for the less structured parts of a Victoria Falls trip: an afternoon beside your plunge pool, a drink beneath the trees, or simply watching the wildlife around the lodge.

And perhaps that is the most interesting thing about Albida. It doesn’t attempt to compete with Victoria Falls for attention. Instead, it provides a quieter base from which to experience the Falls, the Zambezi and the surrounding wilderness, with enough space in between to simply stop and take it all in.

For a destination known for spectacle, it is a rather different kind of luxury: time, privacy and a closer connection to the landscape.
