3 not-to-be-missed auctions ahead

We’ve curated a rare selection of art, collectables and antique auctions happening this month, including a contents-of-mansion auction taking place in the Mother City.

Stephan Welz & Co. Johannesburg auction

Taking place from 23 to 26 November, Stephan Welz & Co.’s final auction will be offering a series of works by some of the most important artists in South African history. During the first session of this sale, the auction house has a selection of rare collectable cars. These vintage vehicles range from a 1911 Fiat 15 hp four-seater Torpedo to a 2007 Bentley Continental GTC. A carved oak parish chest from the late 17th and 18th century is of particular interest within the furniture department on offer in the third session.

Harcroft House Constantia mansion auction

The entire contents of a historic mansion in Cape Town, which has stood untouched for the past 70 years, will be going on auction on 18 November by leading auction house Strauss & Co. Harcroft House is an imposing 64-roomed mansion in the heart of Constantia. The emphasis of the collection lies in the oriental ivories, scroll paintings and furniture. The 558-lot auction will take on site and will be preceded by three days of public viewing, from 15 to 17 November.

Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Online auction

If you find yourself in London this week and the next, or you are at ease bidding online, the Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Online auction offers a wonderful selection of works by contemporary artists. With estimates beginning at £500, the auction offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire works by some of the most celebrated contemporary artists, such as Thomas Housago, Albert Oehlen, Keith Haring and Stik. The auction will be open for bidding from 14 to 21 of November, with highlights on view in the New Bond Street galleries from 13 – 19 of November.
