The luxury briefing

Bond. James, Bond.

Fans of 007 are likely to find themselves in Austria soon, as a new visitor attraction on the peak of the Gaislachkogl sets its sights on a 12 July opening. The dedicated exhibition, 007 Elements, comes as a result of a deal struck between Spectre (2015) production crew and restauranteur, Jakob Falkner, who knew a Bond film set in the area was more than worth the expense of an attraction after the film’s release. While there, stop to dine at the elegant Ice Q restaurant that doubled-up as Spectre’s Hoffler Klinik.

Steve McQueen’s Rolex Submariner

Phillips are due to auction Steve McQueen’s Rolex Submariner in October of this year, but it wasn’t actually McQueen’s watch for very long. That’s because this particular watch of the legendary man’s man was gifted to McQueen’s stuntman, Loren Janes, back in the 70s. The watch  is inscribed, ‘To Loren, the best damn stuntman in the world. Steve’, and has survived at least one major fire.

Known for his quirk, Porky Hefer was just the artist to inject some tactful humour into the serious topic that is animal endangerment. It features a series of pods made to look like an orangutan, a polar bear, a sloth, a blue whale, and a great white shark (some of the world’s endangered species), and were produced using environmentally-sustainable materials that have been extensively hand-worked by artisans in Cape Town.

Hefer’s Endangered will be exhibited in Florida next week as part of Design Miami/Basel 2018, after being commissioned by the SFA Advisory, and presented by the Southern Guild. The exhibition, will go on to benefit the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

A Grecian getaway

Santorini may be well-trodden roads for you by now, but the Canaves Oia Epitome in Ammoudi, Oia is a recent open, and therefore still a well-kept secret. Expect spectacular views and understated stone, wood and marble finishings that support rather than upshow the hotel’s glorious setting. Book the panoramic balcony for a private dinner you won’t soon forget.
