The Southern Guild – of the larger Guild Group – is a haven for South African design, representing a variety of respected local creatives both here and internationally. Last week at the Guild Gallery in the V&A’s Silo District, the group announced a partnership with BMW South Africa.
Much like the collectibles put on display by the Southern Guild, BMW’s sleek releases are also covetable. This was then a gathering of like-minds, which will culminate in a dynamic year-round programme of design-led events and initiatives. Trevyn McGowan, founder and CEO of the Guild Group, spoke of the union, ‘Naturally, we are thrilled to be entering into such a mutually supportive partnership, particularly one where the pursuit of excellence on both sides is so clear.’
The BMW Group’s foray into the arts extends past its own production line, having initiated and engaged in over a hundred cultural co-operations worldwide to date, working with artists like Esther Mahlangu, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Daniel Barenboim, Jonas Kaufmann, Cao Fei, John Baldessari and architect Zaha Hadid.
The partnership will be celebrated with the first of its new series of events set to take place in July 2018. More information is available from the Southern Guild’s website.
