Montblanc continues its Writers Edition series with the launch of the Writers Edition homage to Bram Stoker, dedicated to the visionary Irish author whose 1897 novel Dracula defined the vampire myth and left a lasting mark on both literature and popular culture.
A pioneer of the horror genre, Bram Stoker wove together ancient folklore and the scientific curiosity of his time, creating a narrative where the supernatural and rational coexist. This tension between darkness and discovery forms the creative foundation of the collection, inspiring a design language that captures both the haunting atmosphere of Dracula and the spirit of scientific discovery that defined the late Victorian era.
A design language shaped by myth and science
Across the collection, Montblanc translates key elements of Stoker’s narrative into form, material and detail. The interplay of deep red and black evokes the novel’s most dramatic moments, symbolising the fusion of blood and poison after a vampire’s bite, while subtle engravings and sculptural elements echo the psychological tension that defines the story.
The collection also reflects Stoker’s fascination with scientific progress. The silhouette of the writing instruments, as well as their cone and cap, draw inspiration from the Pravaz syringe, an important medical innovation of the 19th century, as well as a reference to the novel’s theme of blood transfusion as a rational response to the supernatural. In addition to being inspired by details from his literary masterpiece Dracula, they also include details from Bram Stoker’s personal life.

Four editions, one story
The collection unfolds across four limited editions, each interpreting a different chapter of Stoker’s world.
The Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker Limited Edition captures the moment following a vampire’s bite, with marbled red and black precious resin symbolising the meeting of blood and poison. A gold nib carries elements of Stoker’s family coat of arms, while his signature is engraved on the cap and two subtle marks above the clip reference the bite marks left by a vampire.
The Limited Edition 1897, named for the year Dracula was published, takes its inspiration from Count Dracula’s ability to transform into a bat. Crafted from sterling silver with an oxidised finish, its sculptural cap and barrel resemble folded wings, creating a dramatic play of light and shadow. Elsewhere, the design nods to Stoker’s career in theatre, with details inspired by London’s Lyceum Theatre and a nib decorated with the masks of comedy and tragedy.
Limited to 93 pieces, the Limited Edition 93 looks to the year Stoker began writing his masterpiece. Here, his fascination with science, medicine and technological progress takes centre stage. Crafted from white gold with a blackened finish, the pen features window-like openings and mechanical details reminiscent of medical instruments. Celtic knots drawn by Stoker’s sister, Matilda, appear throughout, while Arts and Crafts-inspired engravings and elements of the Stoker family crest add another layer of personal history.
The most elaborate of the four is the Limited Edition 8. Drawing on the protective symbols used to ward off vampires in Dracula, its intricate design features garlic and wild rose motifs, traditionally associated with protection against evil. Hand-applied enamel, mother-of-pearl, engraving, diamonds, red garnets and jasper come together in a highly detailed expression of the novel’s darker mythology.
More than a collector’s piece
What makes the collection so interesting is that each edition goes beyond simply referencing Stoker’s work, using his story to explore craftsmanship, history, science and symbolism.
Even the accompanying pieces continue the narrative. A special purple ink, a black velvet-textured notebook featuring the Limited Edition 8’s floral design and steel cufflinks set with jasper complete the collection.
For collectors, literature lovers and anyone drawn to objects with a story behind them, the Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker is a reminder that the best design often has more than one chapter to tell.
