Just unveiled: the new Maserati Levante SUV

Maserati has finally lifted the lid on its first SUV, the Levante, which made its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in early March – and it's a thing of beauty.

maserati-levante-2_1800x1800-427890This is a historic first for the Italian automobile manufacturer and completes the existing range of sedans and sports cars, extending its current offering of the Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.

Of course the Levante is not all about departures for the legendary manufacturer. Devotees of the marque will still be able to spot its absolutely Italian character and Maserati’s unmistakable design signature. This includes the iconic triple air vents on the front fender, the trapezoidal C-pillar with the ‘Saetta’ logo and the large, frameless door windows. The aggressive front features tapered headlights. The sports car influence doesn’t stop here: the rear is dominated by a slanted back window and a streamlined shape for a silhouette as sleek as any of Maserati’s other legendary models.

The Levante SUV has the bite to back up that bark. While outstanding on-road performance is a given with Maserati, the Levante’s chassis is designed to offer that same unrivalled handling even on very low-grip surfaces. All versions of the new Maserati SUV come with sophisticated electronic suspensions with controlled damping and air springs with variable settings, ‘Q4’ intelligent all-wheel drive and specially calibrated 8-speed automatic transmission. As for petrol or diesel? With the new Maserati Levante SUV you’ll be able to take your pick of either engine.

maserati-levante-3_1800x1800-429088It’s not that Maserati are reinventing the wheel. Rather they are taking everything archetypal of the brand and reconfiguring it to face a new road. With the first cars already off the assembly line, it’s no longer a question of Maserati or SUV – not when you can have the Maserati of SUVs.
