The life and practice of Vilhelm Hammershøi

Christie's is auctioning Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi's 1912 work on 31 October in New York. The British auction house visits Copenhagen to learn more about the artist’s life and practice.

This week’s Private Screening delves into ‘a beautiful stillness’ of Vilhelm Hammershøi’s Interior with an Easel. The oil-on-canvas piece is unusual, however, because it is one of only four works that Hammershøi ever painted which depict an artist’s easel.

Watch last week’s Private Screening about Tom Dixon’s lighting to dine and drink by.
