More than just a luxury lifestyle sanctuary, Healing Earth Wellness at Laborie Estate marks the arrival of South Africa’s first destination spa fully dedicated to vinotherapy, a pioneering concept rooted in sustainability, science and African botanical heritage.
Set against the backdrop of one of the Cape’s oldest wine estates, Healing Earth Wellness blends holistic living with a strong sense of place, drawing inspiration directly from the surrounding vineyards and iconic landscape.
South Africa’s first vinotherapy destination spa
At the heart of the concept is vinotherapy, with treatments centred around the restorative properties of grapes and grape-derived compounds. Healing Earth has transformed this philosophy into a uniquely South African wellness offering inspired by Pinotage, the country’s signature grape cultivar.
Created in Stellenbosch in 1925 by Professor Abraham Izak Perold, Pinotage has long been part of South Africa’s wine story. Now, Healing Earth is giving it a new purpose. Rich in naturally occurring polyphenols and resveratrol, Pinotage grapes contain powerful antioxidants that are 20 times more potent than Vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E. Known for their skin-enhancing properties, these compounds have been transformed into professional spa treatments and high-performance skincare backed by botanical research.
Signature experiences inspired by the vineyards
Guests can immerse themselves in a curated range of experiences designed around relaxation and restoration. Signature offerings include the 90-minute Pinotage Full Body Ritual, antioxidant grape facials, vineyard sound and meditation healing sessions, wine and wellness pairings, a vinotherapy Hammam and thermal experiences featuring saunas, steam rooms, cold plunges, hydrotherapy and infrared therapy.
A historic space reimagined
The spa itself is housed within Laborie Estate’s original champagne cellar dating back to 1976. Designed by Marnus Erasmus of Malherbe Rust Architects, the historic space has been transformed into a contemporary wellness sanctuary that balances heritage with modern design. Guests can enjoy treatment rooms that overlook Pinotage vineyards, creating a direct connection between the therapies and the landscape that inspires them.
