Dr Lilliana Gilla Lulli studied for ten years, attaining a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and Psychology from the University of Johannesburg, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in Pretoria.
In order to meld her artistic and medical skills, she decided to join The Renewal Institute- that consists of Skin, Body, Health, Brain and Sleep Renewal -as she’s fascinated with and astounded by the pace of development of medical aesthetics, and after three years of service at Tembisa Hospital, she felt it was time to return to explore the lighter disciplines of medicine. “I was introduced to Skin Renewal as a Mrs South Africa titleholder. I soon discovered that The Renewal Institute was an integrative practice, addressing wellbeing from a multitude of directions,” she says.
A day in the life of an aesthetic medicine practitioner includes assessing patient’s skin, addressing anti-ageing concerns – aesthetically and functionally, and being a pillar of psychological support. “Your skin is your dashboard for what is happening on the inside: if your organs and soul are not ageing well, your skin is going to show it straight away.”
Dr Lulli’s patients’ concerns are mostly around aesthetics, body, diet, concentration and sleep. “Everything we do at The Renewal Institute impacts the way you are going to age. While we address anti-ageing with mostly aesthetic procedures, it’s important to note that our ultimate goal is to ensure you are treated holistically. When it comes to aesthetic procedures, we have new technology fillers, lasers, chemical peels, threading and skincare options in our arsenal, but not every option is suitable for every patient – each treatment and programme is bespoke.
“I would say the biggest advance has been the discovery and use of platelet rich plasma (PRP), which is part of our signature Vampire Facial.”
The Vampire Facial is a procedure that involves withdrawing a patient’s blood, processing it to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, then re-injecting it to erase wrinkles and create a more youthful look. “We are achieving incredible results with non-invasive technology.”
