Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2017

African Fashion International (AFI), owner and operator of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg (MBFWJ), has announced the designer schedule for its world-class marketing platform for refined African apparel and accessories.

There will be 44 South African and international designers who will showcase their collections at the premier Mall of Africa, from 17-19 August 2017. Tickets are now on sale at www.africanfashioninternational.com, and range in price from R150 to R300 per show, depending on the designer and the seating. All shows will take to the runway at the exciting new venue at Mall of Africa, apart from David Tlale’s extravaganza, which will take place at a venue yet to be disclosed.

This theme for MBFWJ 2017 is #RootedinSyle, to encourage the young fashion collective to celebrate their style and African individuality. The theme will be driven by the Xperience AFI lounge, to encourage the fashion-savvy millennial generation to explore and celebrate their unique and fashionable creativity within the African context, in recognition of the influence that African fashion has had on designers worldwide. Tickets for Xperience AFI will be on sale on the AFI website for R150.

Additionally, South Africans passionate about the business of fashion will be able to buy tickets to engage with the industry’s leading voices and influencers in the Africa Trending Masterclass, taking place before the shows on 19 August 2017, from 11h00 to 13h00.

The Masterclass will be led by Nicola Cooper, trend researcher and analyst, and Dave Nameth, a consumer trend and business analyst, and will stimulate thought-provoking and enriching discussions around African and international fashion.

“Fashion Week is primarily about promoting designers to consumers, buyers and media. The goal is to attract sales for designers and engagement for sponsors,” says Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, AFI Founder and CEO. “The Africa Trending Masterclass will help share some leading insights on global fashion trends, while engaging influencers in rich discussions about how to elevate and promote African fashion.”
