At the annual exhibition where the world’s most sought-after brands debut their most significant new vehicles, Rolls-Royce showcased three custom Phantoms and the Dawn Aero Cowling.
Each custom car was commissioned by Rolls-Royce patrons and have unique features like hand-polished veneers, custom paint covers and one-of-a-kind art displays in the Gallery on the dashboard. The designs were inspired by the history of Rolls-Royce, like the 1930s Phantom II Continental Saloons and Charles Sykes’ original drawings for the Spirit of Ecstasy, the iconic ornament on Rolls-Royce cars.
The first of these three Phantoms, “The Gentleman’s Tourer” was inspired by the Phantom II Continental Saloons of the 1930’s. For those with an interest in high-performance aircraft, the car sports a unique Iced Gunmetal exterior paint. The snug cabins feature tones of Black, Selby Grey and Anthracite leathers with embossed Spirit’s of Ecstasy on each door panel. The Cascade Steel Gallery is finished with the rare precious metal Ruthenium.
“Whispered Muse” features a unique Piano Seashell veneer on the interior surfaces, handstitched embroidery and Rose Gold Audio speakers on the interiors of the rear doors. The car also features the first-ever Rose Gold Spirit of Ecstasy on the bonnet. Artist, Helen Amy Murray, was commissioned to design the gallery. She wanted it to look soft and organic and was inspired by the illustrations of the Spirit of Ecstasy by Charles Sykes
The Rolls Royce Phantom “A Moment in Time” also bears this beautiful artwork on its Gallery. The interior has a custom Piano Milori Sapphire veneer, which has been hand-polished for 12 hours and complements the Navy and Selby Grey interior. The exterior features a newly created Blue Crystal over Milori Sapphire paint in which six layers of paint are built up. The last is a layer of clear-coat infused with blue glass to create a blue crystal effect.
The 2018 Geneva Motor Show was also the place to catch a first glimpse at the transformed Dawn. The Dawn Aero Cowling has an extended tonneau area which conceals the hood of the car making it more aerodynamic. The cover itself is made of carbon-fibre and aluminium and is incredibly light and strong. The silver car sports 21inch alloy wheels and an interior swathed in Casden Tan leather.
