The 2018 handbag collection from Chanel

A woman and her bag or rather her bags – it’s a timeless story of fashion and love between practicality and aesthetic passion.

For the campaign, Karl Lagerfeld did the shoot himself with model Kaia Gerber at Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. Every piece of furniture and object holds memories there – like the suede sofa with quilted cushions, immortalised in photographs of Gabrielle Chanel surrounded by her models and friends. Kaia Gerber lounges on this very couch while wearing the Chanel collection and holding the two PVC flap bags, the mint-green tweed Gabrielle, and a navy tweed Vanity Case.

Showcased in the ads by the French fashion house are the 11.12 bag, in embroidered tweed or coloured PVC and the latest takes on the Gabrielle and Boy Chanel handbags.

The 2018 handbag collection from Chanel 2

The Gabrielle handbag, just like its predecessors, is both practical and elegant. Its volume, rigid base and strap allow for multiple ways of wearing it. The Boy Chanel bag reveals Gabrielle Chanel’s taste for androgyny. She often borrowed from menswear, most notably the hunter’s cartridge belts she wore over the shoulder and which provided direct inspiration for the bag. There’s also a vanity case and a camera case with their original shapes swathed in exotic leathers or charms.
