For Roland-Garros 2017, Louis Vuitton has created two trophy trunks designed to protect the Suzanne Lenglen Cup and the Musketeers’ Cup, which are awarded each year respectively to the French Open women’s and men’s champions. This marks a meaningful collaboration for two French brands internationally renowned for their attachment to know-how, excellence, art, and promoting Paris and France worldwide.

French Know-How Given Pride of Place

Manufactured by the Maison Mellerio, the oldest jeweller and goldsmith in the world established on Rue de la Paix in Paris, the two trophies required long hours of work, just like the time spent by the tournament’s teams creating the finest clay courts in the world. Symbols of the French Open, the Suzanne Lenglen Cup and the Musketeers’ Cup have found a fitting showcase with this trunk. During the finals, the trophies in the presidential box will undoubtedly work their magic, bringing together three prestigious French brands: Louis Vuitton, Mellerio and Roland-Garros.

Bespoke Cases

These two trophy trunks, handcrafted in Louis Vuitton’s historic workshops in Asnières, have been meticulously produced to house each of the illustrious Roland-Garros trophies. Adorned in the iconic Monogram canvas, these trunks both feature the signature brass corners and lock. The terracotta-coloured interior evokes the clay surface. On the front, a “V” reminiscent of the lines on a tennis court adds the finishing touch to the trunk’s design. Before the women’s and men’s singles finals, Vik Muniz, the visual artist who created the 2017 Roland-Garros poster, will add his personal mark to customise these two cases.

“With Louis Vuitton and Roland-Garros, France is the winner, France is a source of wonder and inspiration. The partnership between two of the finest French brands is a symbol that will inspire the champions during the tournament fortnight. Our trophies have never been so beautiful as in this magnificent new case. It’s a fabulous highlight for Roland-Garros 2017”,  states Bernard Giudicelli, President of the French Tennis Federation.

“Louis Vuitton has always supported the greatest explorers and pioneers on their travels, including Roland Garros and Suzanne Lenglen themselves. Combining elegance and innovation, Louis Vuitton has constantly reinvented travel, just like Roland Garros did for aviation and Suzanne Lenglen for tennis. After taking the most prestigious trophies in the world of football, rugby and sailing to the four corners of the globe, we are extremely proud to be playing a part in 2017’s Roland-Garros tournament. It is an honour to design these bespoke cases that will transport and protect two famous international tennis trophies”,  explains Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton.
