Talented bassist and composer Sean Sanby brings 2020 to a wrap at the Hazendal Jazz Club, with an all-original set from his debut album ā€˜Out of the Candlelight’.Ā Ā A graduate of the respected South African College of Music, Sanby recently returned to local shores after a year spent playing abroad. His debut album is already making waves amongst local jazz-lovers, and was recently nominated as Best Contemporary Jazz Album at the MzantsiĀ Jazz Awards.

 

ExploringĀ universal themes of hope and potential,Ā SanbyĀ integrates his own livedĀ experienceĀ with stories from Cape Town into his music. Across hisĀ repertoireĀ theseĀ originalĀ compositionsĀ reveal theĀ wide-rangeĀ ofĀ influences that have shaped his musicalĀ journey, incorporating African musicalĀ idiomsĀ alongside elements of both traditional and contemporaryĀ jazz.

JoiningĀ SanbyĀ onĀ the stage at HazendalĀ isĀ his ā€˜collective’ of young jazz talents:Ā MuneebĀ HermansĀ (trumpet), Jesse Julies (saxophone), Bradley Prince (guitar),Ā BrathewĀ van Schalkwyk (piano),Ā LilavanĀ GangenĀ (percussion) and DamianĀ KaminethĀ (drums).

We invite all our guests to our Wine Tasting Lounge before the show to enjoy a wine tasting, glass of wine or one of our signature cocktails. Hazendal’s tapas-style inspired menu will be available during the show.
