The results are in for the 4th annual World Culinary Awards that rounds up only the most impressive culinary offerings at restaurants, luxury hotels and city destinations in various continents across the globe.
On Monday, 16 October, TANG V&A Waterfront in Cape Town claimed the top honour of the prestigious Africa’s Best New Restaurant accolade for 2023. This award is a bold nod to the immense potential and creativity that thrives in modern African dining.

Founder of MIRAMAR Collection which owns TANG Sandton, TANG V&A Waterfront and Mirabelle Vineyards, Nicky Van Der Walt, expressed his gratitude and excitement for the win: “Achieving this award is something we will never forget; a reminder that our hard work and dedication to the craft of dining does not go unnoticed in the industry, and further fuels us to continue offering premium dining experiences.”
“Thank you to all the guests and diners who have supported us since launching in December 2022. It has been, and remains, an incredible honour to provide premium dining experiences to those seeking them. Immense thanks and appreciation must go to the entire TANG team, without whom none of this would be possible,” said the esteemed restaurateur.

The World Culinary Awards was established in 2020. Each year a great number of culinary brands are assessed to determine nominees for 38 category winners. Winners are then selected by a panel of industry experts, consumers, and prominent figures in the culinary community, and announced at the special event.

This year, the event brought together some of the acclaimed chefs and personalities from every corner of the globe at the dreamy architectural gem, Atlantis The Royal Hotel, Dubai.

Since its successful opening in December 2022, TANG V&A Waterfront has freshened up Cape Town’s premium dining scene and set a new standard for relaxed luxury and cosmopolitan culture.

Of course, the true magic happens in the kitchen where Group Executive Chef Vixa Kalenga and his award-winning culinary team push the boundaries of modern dining to new heights. Kalenga serves up sensory-driven signature dishes with a luxurious take on contemporary Japanese izakayas and classic Cantonese cuisine. Menu highlights include Peking Duck, black cod miso, yellowtail sashimi, and a sharp selection of gourmet sushi and wok dishes.

The restaurant’s location is perfectly positioned for impressive views of the bustling harbour and a backdrop of the iconic Table Mountain. Renowned designer Tristan Du Plessis infused the interiors of this 700 square metre space to complement the lively energy of the Waterfront while creating a warm and serene feel of sophistication.
Design elements such as the oak panelling in neutral tones, glass accents, and ivory statement marble waterfall at the entrance that evokes a sense of glamour are carefully selected to flow in synergy with the surroundings.

TANG V&A Waterfront’s win of the Africa’s Best New Restaurant 2023 award cements Cape Town’s status as an international African capital while also standing tall as one of the world’s best restaurants designed to compete with the best the world has to offer.

TANG Dubai is set to open at the prestigious Palace Downtown Hotel in 2024.
