Jailhouse clock auctioned for millions

It’s not often that collectors are given the opportunity to own a piece of music history. An OMEGA watch once belonging to Elvis Presley was recently sold by Phillips at the Geneva Watch Auction. The rockstar’s timepiece fetched an impressive CHF 1,500,000 (R18,729,455) after a round of competitive bids., eventually going to the OMEGA Museum in Switzerland. The price sets a new record for any OMEGA watch ever bought.

William Kentridge and the 2015 Il Carisma

As the tenth iteration of their Vendemmia D’Artista series, luxury wine makers Ornellaia have collaborated with South African artist, William Kentridge. The collection consists of a series of 111 large-format bottles of the 2015 Ornellaia (named ‘Il Carisma’)– inclusive of a remarkable nine-litre salmanazar. Each case of six wines will also have a limited edition label. This collaboration extends on from Ornellaia’s commission of Kentridge for an installation at Ornellaia in celebration of their thirtieth anniversary. The wines will be auctioned by Sotheby’s on the 23rd May at the Victoria and Albert Museum, who will both host and benefit from all sales as other art foundations have received support from the past nine other artist partnerships.

London frequenters rejoice – celebrated chef, Ollie Dabbous, has joined forces with Hedonism Wines to open a new restaurant near Green Park, The Hide. Sprawled across three floors, Hide has received nods for its ‘encyclopaedic wine list‘, its seasonal and fresh fare, along with its open bakery. Every brand wants a piece of the royal wedding

It has been near impossible to evade the royal wedding fervour as the date of the upcoming nuptials creep ever closer. Even fashion house Louis Vuitton couldn’t escape it, releasing a limited edition set of four bag designs featuring a bright Union Jack flag. The Royal Wedding collection is only on sale at the New Bond Street store, and is available across the Keepall, Speedy, Néo Noé, and Petite Malle models.

BMW’s sports car of the future

In December, BMW unveiled ‘the sports car of the future’ in two body variants; the i8 Roadster and the i8 Coupe. Both are released to the market this month. The plug-in hybrids are housed with enhanced eDrive technology, and form part of an conscientious shift towards electric – a shift further cemented by this week’s announcement from BMW AG, releasing early details on the upcoming full-electric, self-driving iNext model. iNext will be presented as a Vision Vehicle later this year.
