The art collection of a billionaire businessman goes on auction
On the 16th May Sotheby’s will auction 26 masterworks the collection of billionaires Morton and Barbara Mandel. These include artworks by Warhol, Miró and Lichtenstein. The Miró – Femme, Oiseau – is expected to sell for between $10,000,000 and $15,000,000. A pioneering entrepreneur and philanthropist, Morton Mandel, together with his wife Barbara, amassed an enviable collection over several decades which spans many of the most important artistic movements of the 20th century: from Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism; to Minimalism and Pop, with an equal emphasis on paintings, works-on-paper and sculpture.
Aman’s latest ultra-luxury destination resort in Mexico opens soon
Aman, known for its propensity for the ultimate in luxury and design, has recently released details on its latest destination resort, set on the East Coast of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. The resort will be fronted by the Sea of Cortez, and Sierra de la Laguna mountains as a backdrop to its expansive beaches.
The resort will also sport a number of permanent residences, a Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course, a number of organic farms, and a yacht club – should you wish to approach the sprawling retreat by water. Amanvari are currently taking in application for permanent residency.
Watch Massimo Bottura in an evocative collaboration with Panerai
Massimo Bottura of three-Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana and Chef’s Table fame has joined hands with Panerai to collaborate on a new, documentary-style, project. Called ‘Panerai Traits’, it features Bottura and three other significant personalities – Guillaume Néry,Costas Voyatzis, Jason M. Peterson – who are said to embody the ‘distinctive’ traits of the brand. Bottura’s video is themed around innovation – a perfect fit – and explores this through his motto of ‘tradition in evolution.’
Airborne taxis seem to be around the corner
In the eighties we thought we’d have flying cars by now, while in the nineties and early years of the millennium, we laughed at our ignorance. Now – who knows? Uber, the company known for its disruption and early-adopter attitude towards human technological advancement, have made it known that they are investigating the possibility of airborne taxis – they even have a prototype to prove it. The on-demand ‘Elevate’ transport vehicles are being produced by five different companies, and are said to be ready for release in Los Angeles (one of the world’s most congested cities) as early as 2020.

Called ‘Les Petits Nomades’, the collection is the renowned fashion house’s second foray into home accessories, building on from the ‘Objets Nomades‘ home selection (pictured above), and is called a celebration of ‘the encounter between savoir-faire and design.’ Designed by Humberto & Fernando Campana, Atelier Oï, Patricia Urquiola and Marcel Wanders, the collection includes a vase made from 176 two-tone leather ‘petals’, leather bowls, and a Diamond Mirror available in small or large.
