RADO marks 40 years of high-tech ceramic craftsmanship

Rado revisits the Integral, an icon of high-tech ceramic innovation and timeless design.

For four decades, Rado’s high-tech ceramic has represented a unique vision of modern watchmaking, one where beauty is not simply created, but preserved. In celebration of 40 years since the introduction of its groundbreaking material innovation, the Swiss watchmaker presents the Rado Integral 40-Year Anniversary Edition, a tribute to the timepiece that forever changed the relationship between design, durability and craftsmanship.

The birth of a material revolution

Rado has always believed that imagination is the starting point of innovation. Guided by the philosophy, “If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will,” the brand has spent decades challenging the limits of traditional watchmaking.

The journey began with a pursuit of lasting beauty. In 1962, Rado introduced the DiaStar Original, a watch that demonstrated the brand’s pioneering approach to scratch-resistant materials. But Rado’s engineers continued searching for something even more extraordinary: a material that could combine strength with lightness, resilience with comfort, and technical performance with a luxurious feel. The answer arrived in 1986.

With the launch of the Integral, Rado became the first watchmaker to introduce a collection featuring high-tech ceramic, a milestone that would define the brand’s future and establish its reputation as the master of materials.

The Integral

When the original Integral appeared, it looked unlike anything else on the wrist. Its sleek rectangular silhouette, flowing lines and seamless connection between case and bracelet introduced a new language of contemporary design.

Originally launched as the DiaStar Anatom before becoming known as the Integral, the watch earned its name through its completely unified construction. Case, bracelet and sapphire crystal came together in perfect harmony, an integrated expression of elegance and innovation.

High-tech ceramic: beauty designed to last

The secret behind the Integral’s enduring appeal lies in Rado’s signature high-tech ceramic.

Smooth, lightweight and exceptionally comfortable, the material offers a distinctive sensation against the skin while delivering remarkable durability. Engineered from highly refined ceramic powders through an advanced production process, Rado high-tech ceramic achieves impressive hardness, scratch resistance and a lasting brilliance designed to stand the test of time. It is a material created not only for performance, but for emotion, one that keeps a watch looking and feeling exceptional year after year.

Introducing the Integral 40-year anniversary edition

Since 1986, Rado has continued expanding the possibilities of high-tech ceramic, developing new colours, finishes and technologies including plasma high-tech ceramic and Ceramos™. To honour four decades of high-tech ceramic mastery, Rado revisits the icon that started it all.

The Integral 40-Year Anniversary Edition pays tribute to the original 1986 model while incorporating the latest developments in Rado’s materials expertise. The result is a watch that balances heritage and modern refinement, instantly recognisable, yet made for today.

The anniversary model features a polished yellow gold-coloured PVD-coated stainless steel case paired with polished black high-tech ceramic middle links, capturing the distinctive contrast that made the original Integral so memorable.

A black vertically brushed dial, gold-coloured details, Super-LumiNova® accents and a curved sapphire crystal bring together classic Integral design codes with contemporary finishing.

Powered by the Rado calibre R279 quartz movement with PreciDrive technology, the anniversary edition reflects the same philosophy that shaped the first Integral: precision, innovation and timeless style.
