The car that birthed the Porsche’s legend

Earlier this month, RM Sotheby’s announced the sale of the 1939 Porsche Type 64 at its Monterey Car Week auction taking place mid-August.

“Without the Type 64, there would be no Porsche 356, no 550, no 911… This is Porsche’s origin story, the car that birthed the company’s legend, and it offers collectors what is likely an unrepeatable opportunity to sit in the seat of Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche. With this car, the new owner will not only be invited to the first row of every Porsche event worldwide – —they will be the first row!” said RM Sotheby’s car specialist, Marcus Görig.

A contemporary champagne chest by Rolls-Royce

The champagne chest is distinguishably Rolls-Royce: meticulous attention-to-detail and commitment to remarkable hand-craftsmanship. The chassis, made from machined aluminum and carbon fibre, is swathed in natural grain black leather embossed with the enigmatic Spirit of Ecstasy and flanked by Tudor Oakwood, materials found in the marque’s motor cars.

BMW pays homage to Marcello Gandini

During this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este BMW unveiled the recreation of the BMW Garmisch, a classic concept car that was designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone and vanished after its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970. With the newly created car, BMW pays respect to one of Italy’s most influential car designers and adds another chapter to the company’s history.

“Marcello Gandini to me is one of the grandmasters of car design and his cars always have been an important source of inspiration for my work”, says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President of BMW Group Design.

Bang & Olufsen emphasises honest design

The latest addition to the Bang & Olufsen range is the Beosound Edge speaker, designed by acclaimed lighting designer, Michael Anastassiades. The speaker is a testament to his minimalist design approach and the timeless and refined exterior hides an acoustic masterpiece at its core. Looking completely unlike your average home speaker, the simplistic aluminum circle has the look of a contemporary art piece.
