Michelin-starred chefs compete in Mauritius

Constance Belle Mare Plage will be hosting the 11th Annual Festival Culinaire Bernard Loiseau from the 12th to 20th of March 2016.

This prestigious culinary competition offers the Constance Hotels and Resorts island chefs an opportunity to pair up with international Michelin-starred chefs in a quest to produce a world-class winning menu.

The high-level competition shows the privileged ties between Constance Hotels and Resorts, and the Michelin two-starred Relais, Bernard Loiseau, through a wonderful blend of cultures and flavours.

The “Island Chefs” from the Constance Hotels and Resorts are selected following a rigorous process, and once paired with their Michelin-starred mentors work together to create original dishes, with appraisal by a panel of specialist judges from across the world.

Following the weeklong festival the Island Chefs battle it out in a cook-off on the final day, where they demonstrate the knowledge gained from their Michelin-starred mentors. These chefs get to return to their respective islands with an enhanced mastery of their skill.

While the main focus of the Festival Culinaire Bernard Loiseau is on the chefs, this event also celebrates the other professions related to gastronomy with sommelier, bar and pastry competitions.

The judging panel
Once again, Mrs Dominique Loiseau will head up the presiding jury. She will be accompanied by the two-starred Chef and founder member of the Festival Culinaire Bernard Loiseau, Patrick Bertron; the world’s best sommelier in 2013, Swiss Paolo Basso; Bocuse d’Or 2015, Norwegian Orjan Johannessen; Walter Kei, famous food writer and influencer from Hong Kong; and Briton Michael Caines, two-starred Chef who participated in the tenth edition of the Festival Culinaire Bernard Loiseau in 2015.

Oliver Roeder from Bembergs Häuschen, Flamersheim, Germany
Yusuke Goto from Amour French restaurant, Tokyo, Japan
Tommi Tuominen from Restaurant Demo, Helsinki, Finland
Michel Husser from Le Cerf restaurant, Marlenheim, Luxembourg
Berwyn Davies from The Glasshouse, Kew, UK
